Belfast Road Scheme Comber

NI Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard has announced the start of a £121,000 improvement scheme on the Belfast Road, Comber

Work started today on the 800metre resurfacing works which extends from Belfast Road to Ballyrainey Road and is expected to be substantially completed by the first week in September.

Minister Hazzard said: “This significant investment will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on an 800metre section of this important Class A Trunk Road.

“Over 11,000 vehicles use this major road every day which is a key arterial route between Comber and Belfast. Improving transport connections along our key routes while maintaining a network which is fit for purpose is a priority for the Executive. Schemes such as this play a key part in achieving this.”

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors it will be necessary to operate temporary traffic signals and road closures during the course of the improvements. Road closures are scheduled for Friday 19 August 2016 at 19:00hrs to Sunday 21 August 2016 at 20:00hrs. Local access will be maintained and all diversions and restrictions will be clearly signposted.

All work is subject to favourable weather conditions. TransportNI will keep the public informed of any change.

TransportNI has planned the works and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however, drivers should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area.
